Q. When will my ADSL service be shaped and unshaped?
|
|
|
A. If you are on a capped plan, your download quota is calculated between your ADSL shapping anniversary.
If you used up your download quota on the 29th then your service would be shaped from the 29th to the 14th of
the next month. If you are on a capped excess plan, your download quota is calculated between the first and
last days of the month.

Q. What happens if my phone line gets disconnected?
|
|
|
A. Any ADSL customer who's line is disconnected by their telephony provider for any reason is liable for a setup fee
in order to reconnect their service. If the customer's service is under contract, the customer must pay out any contract
termination fees for which they are liable as per our Terms and Conditions.

Q. Does Beagle shape or actively de-prioritise P2P traffic?
|
|
|
A. No, Beagle does not shape or actively de-prioritise P2P traffic. Beagle does however implement a quality of service
prioritisation system on our network to ensure customers have the best possible experience. Our system prioritise traffic into
the following classes (in order of priority):
- Voice (e.g VoIP, Skype, etc)
- Web browsing
- Online gaming
- Everything else
Traffic are given priority on our network in the above order. P2P falls into the 'everything else' class. We think (and so do our customers) that the performance of their VoIP calls and web browsing is more important than P2P so we essentially ensure the performance of these services while not actually shaping P2P.

Q. What speed can I expect with ADSL2+?
|
|
|
A. The following table gives a rough estimate of ADSL2+ speeds. Your
line speed is based on your attenuation, the quality of your line, your modem, your
internal cabling and a number of other factors.
| Distance |
Signal Attenuation |
Modem Sync Speed |
| 0km - 2km | less than 20dB | 14-20Mbit |
| 2km - 3km | less than 40dB | 8-14Mbit |
| 3km - 4km | less than 55dB | 4-8Mbit |
| More than 4km | less than 63dB | 1.5-4Mbit |
Please note that Telstra guarantee a minimum line speed of greater than 1500/256k only.

Q.
What is the rapid transfer process?
|
|
|
A.
The rapid transfer 'churn' process is the process implemented by
Telstra Wholesale to switch between ISPs.
When you sign-up with us, we send your request to Telstra Wholesale.
They then analyse the request and send us back an estimated date of cut
over. When then advise you of this by SMS text message. This usually
happens the same day you sign-up.
It then usually takes a total of 3 business days to switch to our service.
On the day your service is switched, your existing ISP service will stop
working and then you simply need to reconfigure your modem with the new
Beagle username and password and you will then be reconnected with our
service.
If you are upgrading to ADSL2+ at the same time, the process is the same
with the exception of 5% of cases where your telephone line needs to be
moved from once piece of equipment to another inside the Telstra
exchange. In these cases, the process takes 4 business days in total
with a 1 day service interruption.
Telstra Wholesale notifies your existing ISP that you have left their
service but you should still contact them to ensure that they stop
billing you, etc.
